At St John the Baptist RC Primary School, the intention of our RSHE curriculum is to ensure that children have the knowledge and skills to make informed decisions about their wellbeing, health and relationships and enable them to engage in, and manage, healthy relationships, now and in the future.

We understand that we have a responsibility to deliver a high-quality and age-appropriate relationships, sex and health curriculum for all our pupils. We follow the ‘Life to the Full’ curriculum provided by Ten:Ten Resources which is recommended by Salford Diocese. The curriculum is carefully planned so that the teaching is in-line with the values of the Catholic Church and there is an element of prayer in each session. It is designed in way that ensures that information is shared at an age-appropriate and accessible level. We have consulted with staff and parents on the content of ‘Life to the Full’ and we have adapted the programme so that it fully meets the diverse needs of our pupils and families.
The curriculum focuses on the importance of loving relationships, respect, love and care for family life. It involves acquiring information, developing skills and forming positive beliefs, values and attitudes. The understanding of these values is integral to developing positive attitudes towards each other and ensuring positive emotional well-being. The aim of the curriculum is to provide balanced factual information about human reproduction, together with consideration of the broader emotional, ethical, religious and moral dimensions.
The programme provides a range of resources to support teachers in the delivery, including, videos, written slides, animations and interactive activities. These resources ensure that we are able to make the curriculum accessible to all children, including those with special educational needs (SEN).
Alongside developing their knowledge and understanding, our curriculum also aims to develop children’s confidence in communicating effectively with others and their ability to express their opinions successfully in a respectful manner.
