We are above National at the end of EYFS. We have worked hard to improve our outdoor provision and this is now supporting children in developing their skills in all areas.
We have a dedicated Sports Leader who is working with EYFS on their Physical Development. Here are some tips on how parents can support physical development at home:
Gross Motor (Big Movements)
- Play outside: run, jump, climb, ride a bike.
- Dance, play ball games, or go for walks together.
Fine Motor (Small Movements)
- Drawing, colouring, puzzles, building blocks.
- Playdough, threading beads, or helping with buttons/zippers.
Coordination & Balance
- Hopscotch, skipping rope, obstacle courses.
- Try yoga or simple stretches.
Healthy Habits
- Sleep well, eat balanced meals, drink water.
- Limit screen time, encourage active play.
2025 Phonics Screening Check

From these scores, parents can see that the provision for reading in KS1 at St John the Baptist RC Primary school is very good. We are in line with National at Y1 and above National when we look at our constant cohort of children who are with us for at least 2 terms before the test.
Our disadvantaged children are achieving exceptionally well, showing that the excellent provision in place is enabling children to reach their full potential. We are scoring 21.9% above the National figure.
By the end of KS1, the vast majority of children have reached the expected standard and we are close to the National standard. Again, when we look at the children who we have had at least 2 terms with, we are closer again.
Our data is improved from scores in 2023/24 and we are delighted to see our children’s hard work recognised. A big thank you to our EYFS and KS1 staff for their dedication to ensuring our children succeed.

Our carefully planned and adapted maths curriculum has excellent provision for the teaching and learning of times tables.
This means our pupils are consistently performing above the National Standard, even with new arrivals and children new to the country included in our figures.
Children keep up and new arrivals catch up, where needed, very quickly. This means they are ready for the next stage of their education as they move into Y5 and 6.
2025 Key Stage 2 Assessments
During a week in May 2025, Y6 pupils sat tests for mathematics; reading and grammar, punctuation and spelling, which assessed each child against the national standard (a scaled score of 100). In Key Stage 2, the papers were marked externally, whilst performance in writing was judged solely by teacher assessment.
Here is a summary of our Y6 results for the 2025 tests; a scaled score of 110+ indicates that a child is working at a higher standard than the national expectation.

Reading has been a focus all year at St John the Baptist RC Primary School, and we are delighted to be in line with National Expectations for our children. This is a 13.3% improvement on last year’s scores.
Our data shows that the gap is narrowing for our disadvantaged children, as we are 21.3% higher that last year.
We have many children, for whom English is an additional language (93% in this class) and they have worked extremely hard to quickly read and understand a complex set of texts in a short amount of time, in their second or third language! 78% of our EAL children achieved the expected standard. This is 15.3% higher than last year.
70% of our children achieved the National Standard in Reading, Writing and Maths combined. This is above the National Average! This is also an improvement of 16.7%.

Maths has been a real strength within the school and our systems ensure repetition and frequent application of skills. This has been carefully planned and sequenced to ensure all children recall and apply mathematical strategies accuracy and efficiently.
As such, our scores are well above the National Standard. Our EAL pupils have performed incredibly well, with 96.3% achieving the National Standard (26/27 pupils).
Overall, our scaled score has improved from 102.4 to 105.4
